The
Diving - Diving in Akumal takes place on the world's
second largest barrier reef. You will find abundant
coral and marine life along three different major spur
and groove formations. The deep reef starts at a depth
of approximately 60 to 70 feet and extends out in finger
like ridges, and drops to between 100 and 140 feet of
beautiful canyons.
The
Reefs - A second reef ranges from 50 to 70 feet
in depth, making this a perfect choice for your second
dive of the day. The shallow portion of the reef runs
between 25 to 45 feet in depth with large Elkhorn formations.
This area is ideal for photography and serves as an
underwater "classroom" for students participating
in training dives.
Our
Approach- Akumal Dive Adventures prides itself in
a non-invasive approach to scuba diving. We encourage
visitors to enjoy this underwater paradise without impacting
or touching the fragile formations. Accompanying each
dive trip is our professional boat crew, including a
licensed captain and PADI dive master or instructor.

The
Boats: Our 26 foot Marbat dive boat with twin outboard
motors will whisk you to the numerous and nearby dive sites
along the coast. The 25 foot Atila ponga style boat with bimini
top is also ideal for a full day's charter combining diving,
fishing, and snorkeling.
The
Water - Water temperatures average between 84°F in the
summer months and 78°F in the winter months. Visibility ranges
between 50 to 150 feet due to the slight current that keeps
the water ever-changing and clear.
Your
Safety - Your safety is of utmost importance to us. Akumal
Dive Adventures carries a full range of state of the art rental
equipment, including Sherwood and Scubapro regulators and
buoyancy compensators.
When
sea conditions do not permit ocean diving, the areas close
to Akumal provide a number of fresh water springs for the
exciting experience of cavern
and cave diving.
